About the Journal

An open-access platform for law and the legal sciences

The International Journal of Legal Science and Innovation [ISSN 2581-9453 (Online)] is a bi-monthly, double-blind peer-reviewed scholarly journal devoted exclusively to law and the legal sciences. Founded in June 2018 and published by VidhiAagaz, it is certified ISO 9001:2015 and carries an Impact Factor of 6.002 (2026).

IJLSI was founded with a single conviction: that the study and practice of law should be a site of continuous innovation. Our tagline — reinforcing innovation in the conduct of law — is also our editorial mandate. We seek scholarship that does more than describe the law as it stands; we look for work that questions doctrine, anticipates reform, and engages the new legal problems created by technology, data, and a rapidly changing society.

The Journal is fully open access. Every article is freely available worldwide, without charge, paywall, or embargo, the moment it is published. We deliberately keep the threshold to participation low so that a final-year law student, a practising advocate, a trial-court judge, and a senior academic can all contribute to legal discourse on the merits of their work alone.

Each manuscript is screened for originality using Turnitin and Drillbit — without submission of the work to any external repository — and is then assessed under a strict double-blind review in which the identities of authors and reviewers are withheld from one another. Accepted papers are published on a rolling basis and indexed for discoverability across recognised legal and academic databases.

From the Founding Editor

Why a journal of legal innovation?

When IJLSI was launched in June 2018, most Indian law reviews were built to record the law as it already was. We wanted to build something that looked forward instead — a journal where doctrine could be tested against new technologies, new institutions, and new social facts, and where a strong argument mattered more than the letterhead it arrived on.

The name was chosen with care. Legal science signals our commitment to rigour and method; innovation signals our interest in where the law is going next. Across our volumes we have published work on constitutional design, criminal justice, corporate and intellectual-property law, and the fast-moving frontier where data, artificial intelligence and regulation now meet.

We are grateful to every author, reviewer, editor and reader who has shaped this journal. IJLSI remains, above all, a scholarly community — and it grows stronger with each issue.

Message from the Chairperson

“Law is not a finished text to be memorised — it is a living craft that must keep pace with the world it governs. We built IJLSI to be an open, rigorous, and credentialled home for the scholarship that pushes that craft forward. That is what we mean by reinforcing innovation in the conduct of law, and it remains our mission in our eighth year and beyond.”

History

Eight years of open-access legal scholarship

From a single inaugural issue in 2018 to a bi-monthly journal indexed across recognised legal and academic databases, IJLSI’s growth has been steady and deliberate — one volume at a time, in service of better legal scholarship.

June 2018
Journal founded by VidhiAagaz. Volume I, Issue I is published under ISSN 2581-9453 with a founding commitment to fully open access — every article free to read and reuse from the day of publication.
2018 – 2019
Early discoverability. IJLSI is registered with the ISSN Portal and listed on ROAD (Directory of Open Access Scholarly Resources), and its articles become discoverable through Google Scholar within the first year of publication.
2019 – 2020
Bi-monthly cadence established. The Journal settles into a steady six-issues-a-year rhythm and broadens its indexing to abstracting services including DRJI, ResearchBib and I2OR, widening reach for authors across jurisdictions.
2020 – 2021
Manupatra indexing. IJLSI is indexed in Manupatra, one of India’s leading legal-research databases — markedly increasing visibility among practitioners, academics and the judiciary.
2021
ISO 9001:2015 certification awarded, recognising the Journal’s quality-management systems across its editorial, review and production workflows.
2022 – 2024
Frontier scope deepens. IJLSI expands its coverage of technology, data-protection and AI-and-law scholarship, positioning the Journal at the intersection of legal doctrine and emerging legal innovation.
2026 — Eighth Year
Impact Factor 6.002. IJLSI continues as a bi-monthly, ISO-certified, fully open-access journal of law and the legal sciences, indexed across Manupatra, ROAD, Google Scholar and other recognised databases, and published from Volume VII - Issue V onward on a rolling basis.

Editorial Standards

How we safeguard quality

IJLSI applies a consistent, transparent process to every manuscript. Our standards are built around four commitments — rigorous review, research integrity, genuine open access, and editorial independence — that together define what it means to publish with the Journal.

01 — Review
Double-blind peer review
Every submission is assessed by subject reviewers with author and reviewer identities mutually withheld. Decisions turn on the quality, originality and argument of the work alone, and are communicated promptly by email and WhatsApp.
02 — Integrity
Plagiarism screening
Each manuscript is checked with Turnitin and Drillbit before review — without submitting the work to any external repository, so the author’s unpublished research is never exposed. We follow recognised publication-ethics norms on misconduct.
03 — Access
Fully open access
All published articles are freely available worldwide with no paywall, registration wall or embargo. Authors retain the right to share and reuse their work, and there is no charge at the point of submission.
04 — Independence
Independent & certified
Editorial decisions are made independently of commercial interests, under ISO 9001:2015-certified quality-management workflows that keep our review, production and publication processes consistent and auditable.

What Sets Us Apart

What makes IJLSI distinctive

Among legal journals, IJLSI occupies a deliberate niche: a focus on legal innovation, paired with a genuinely open and merit-first publishing model.

Focus
Innovation as the editorial lens
We actively seek scholarship on where the law is heading — technology and AI regulation, data governance, and reform of established doctrine — rather than description for its own sake.
Access
Open, with no submission charge
Reading is always free, and there is no fee to submit. The Journal’s open-access model keeps both authors and readers free of paywalls.
Merit
Author rank is irrelevant
Students, practitioners, judges and professors are read on equal terms under double-blind review — the strength of the argument is the only thing that decides.
Speed
Responsive, rolling publication
We aim to acknowledge submissions within 24 hours and publish accepted papers on a rolling basis, so timely scholarship reaches readers without long queues.
